“A better question is to ask if they use VLOOKUP or Index Match, and why?” The only right answer is neither of them! XLOOKUP, because it’s an Index Match wrapped into an IFERROR and the syntax is much cleaner
You would have qualified as the psycho who got the answer correct.
I have yet to hear somebody ask in an interview about XLOOKUP, probably because they reached levels that no longer require them to open Excel once XLOOKUP got added.
Great insights. Four is a real killer. Dear god, please have your story straight about the basics like “what does this job do” and “do we even want to hire for it.” I’ve withdrawn from the hiring process multiple times because of it. If a company is that much of a mess in the interview process, they’re going to be a mess to work for.
Also, you should add a tip of “communicate both timely and often pre and post interview.” As a candidate, it’s a giant turn off if I don’t hear from you for weeks after an interview or if I have to hound you for information.
Same! Kind of crazy how firms think it’s ok to keep candidates in the dark for weeks, if not months at a time. Like you said, indicative of the firm you.
Good idea, I’ll when I do an update! Thanks for reading and commenting!

Exactly on all fronts!
